The Remo Powerstroke P4 Clear has a great attack, good durability, and focused mid and low-end tones. This drumhead is perfect for heavier hitting and loud environments.
The Remo Powerstroke P4 Clear is made with two plies of clear 7mil film, and an inlay ring around the underside of the head. The inlay ring on the Powerstroke P4 is 3mil thick for toms and snare drums, and 7.5mil thick for the kick drum version. This inlay ring helps to reduce ringing overtones and cut some of the sustain, making this a fairly focused drumhead. Despite the added control, the drumhead doesn’t choke the tone too much, and it gives a good lively sound. The two 7mil plies make the Powerstroke P4 durable enough to withstand some heavy hitting, which is perfect for louder situations.
Sound-wise, the Remo Powerstroke P4 Clear is great for live playing, with a strong bright attack that helps cut through a loud mix. The bright attack of the P4 Clear is followed by a short balanced-warm sustain… Ringing is reduced by the control ring, and the sound has good focus on the fundamental note. These drumheads sound great on toms and kick drums, where they can provide a loud and cutting sound that is great in medium and high volume environments. On a snare drum, you will have a fairly controlled and attacking crack (especially when tuned higher), without choking the drum too much. Tuned low, the P4 Clear give a short balanced thud.
The Remo Powerstroke P4 Clear is a great choice if you love two ply drumheads like the Response 2, Emperor, or G2, but want a slightly more focused sound with less overtones. This is a good drumhead for medium and higher volume drumming. Note that the two ply construction means the Remo Powerstroke P4 Clear might not be sensitive enough for very light touches, or very quiet playing.
Note: The clear surface of the Remo Powerstroke P4 Clear makes it unsuitable for use with brushes. For a very similar head that is great for both drumsticks and brush use, take a look at the Remo Powerstroke P4 Coated.
