Description

A great balance between control and focus when struck in the center, and colourful overtones on the edge. The Evans Power Center Reverse Dot Coated is a versatile snare drum head that can be used with both drumsticks and brushes.

The Evans Power Center Reverse Dot Coated is made with a single 10mil coated ply, and a 5mil center control dot on the underside of the drumhead (the “Power Center”). The Power Center’s control dot adds a little more focus and attack when this drumhead is struck in the center. The sound is very similar to the regular Power Center Coated (with top control dot), however the Reverse Dot makes this version playable with both drumsticks and brushes. The top control dot on the other two versions of the Power Center will get in the way of brush strokes. Overall, this is a versatile snare drum head that can be used across a huge range of music styles.

The Evans Power Center Reverse Dot has a very balanced sound, with a good spread of tone across the high, mid, and low frequencies. This drumhead can produce a very good attack and nice projection, which is great for medium or higher volume drumming. The Power Center helps to reduce sustain and overtones when this drumhead is struck in the center, adding a little bit of control to the sound. While the Power Center gives some focus, the overall tone is still fairly open… The design allows this snare drum head to resonate well. When struck towards the edge, the Evans Power Center Reverse Dot will give a wider range of overtones. Compared to the Clear Evans Power Center, the Coated Reverse Dot Power Center is slightly warmer sounding with a smoother attack. While the attack is smoother than the clear version, this drumhead is still capable of giving a big cracking snare drum sound (especially when tuned high).

While the control dot reduces this drumhead’s sensitivity a little, the 10mil single ply means that the Evans Power Center stays responsive to lighter touches… Ghost notes and subtle hits come through nicely, which is great for sensitive snare drum playing. With the control dot on the underside of this drumhead, there is slightly more sensitivity compared to the regular Coated Power Center. This a versatile drumhead that can be used across a wide range of musical styles, and from low to higher volumes. The Evans Power Center’s control dot also adds some extra durability, which allows you to hit a little harder when needed to get a bigger snare drum sound. Again, this makes the Evans Power Center Reverse Dot a versatile head.

If you’re looking for versatility, a little bit of focus, and a durable yet sensitive drumhead, the Evans Power Center Reverse Dot Coated is a great choice. The Power Center keeps overtones in check, without choking the drumhead. Leave it open to get a fuller tone, or add extra dampening if you need a tighter sound.

Note: The control patch is on the underside of this drumhead. This means that it can be played with both brushes and drumsticks, and will feel slightly more responsive.

The Evans Power Center Reverse Dot is designed for snare drums.
