Description
Slightly thicker than the G1, the Evans G12 Coated is still highly responsive and open. The G12 Coated brings more durability, warmth, and give a nice boost to the midrange and low-end.
The Evans G12 Coated is made with a single ply of coated 12mil film. This drumhead is more durable than thinner 1-ply heads, and balances the bright edge with a more midrange and low-end sound. This creates a slightly more focused and warm drumhead, without losing sustain. The 12mil coated single ply gives a boost to the warmth, making the Evans G12 Coated a good choice if you want your drum sound to blend well with other instruments. Sound-wise, the Evans G12 Coated is slightly warmer and more focused than the Evans G12 Clear.
While slightly thicker than standard 1-ply heads, the 12mil single ply is still very responsive, making the Evans G12 Coated usable at moderate and lower volumes. It’s important to note, however, that the G12 may not be responsive enough for very light playing. Where this drumhead really shines is for moderate and heavier volume drumming. If you like the full and open sound of the G1 but want to hit a little harder, the G12 Coated is a great choice (especially for snare drums).
The Evans G12 Coated is a top choice for an open, versatile, and durable single ply drumhead. This head is great on snare drums and toms, with a responsive coating for both brushes and drumsticks.
