One of the thickest drumheads available, The Remo Emperor X Black Suede is extremely durable. These drumheads are designed to take a beating and can withstand long-term abuse.
The Remo Emperor X Black Suede drumhead is built with two 10mil plies, a 5mil underside center control dot, and a soft smooth suede coating. Compared to the regular Remo Emperor X, the Black Suede’s coating gives a slightly brighter attack. This attack is quickly followed by a short deep midrange and low-end sustain. The underside control dot adds durability and helps focus the sound even more, reducing sustain and overtones.
Designed to be played hard and loud, the Remo Emperor X Black Suede is perfect for medium and high volumes. This is one of the thickest drumheads available, and can withstand the heaviest hitting and long-term use. The Emperor X Black Sude is also a great drumhead for big rimshots. This head can produce a huge cutting snare sound that will be heard even in extremely loud environments. On toms in loud environments, this head benefits from microphones, so the warmer sound doesn’t get lost in the mix.
While the Remo Emperor X Black Suede is best suited to drumsticks, the suede surface is also responsive to brushes. Compared to regular coated drumheads, the Suede brush sound is less harsh and more consistent. The consistency is due to less variation (less bumps) across the drumhead’s coating. Note, however, that the extremely thick design is not sensitive enough for very light brush playing. The Emperor X Black Suede is a snare drum head designed to be played loud.
Remo Emperor X Black Suede drumheads are designed for snare drums (but will also fit smaller toms). These drumheads come in 10″, 12″, 13″ and 14″ sizes.
